Milly Shaw of hookjab, my favorite copywriting blog, recently wrote a post about blog ads. In which the question is asked, “If I’ve read a good post, I click an ad. Is that wrong?”
I began writing a comment in response, however it ended up pretty huge so I thought I would post the response here […]
Hookjab: Do you click blog ads?
Questionable link building
I read about a link building strategy today which I thought was extremely innovative, if not completely black hat.
http://search.cnn.com/search?query=site%3Afoldedsquare.com
By constructing the above URL, using CNN’s google search I have placed a link to foldedsquare.com on a page on the CNN domain.
When google come to this site, they will follow that link to CNN and find […]

Wikipedia’s success is due to Google’s lazyness
Wikipedia – it seems you either love it or hate it.
For a long time now large sections of the SEO community have been have been asking the question, ‘Why does Google love Wikipedia so much?’.
I think the answer is obvious. Google is lazy.
Ok, I will give Google a break and admit that they have a […]
Google Apple Partnership - Goopple?
I do love a good rumor monger but this one has to be more than hearsay.
Google and Apple have been becoming a great deal closer of late. First there was talk that the .mac service could use the Google ‘cloud infrastructure’ for its hosting. Apple currently charges nearly $100 a year for 1GB of storage, […]
Keywords
I have found keywords a highly misunderstood topic.
Even now I hear SEOs talking about keyword density and meta tags, people still ask questions about why we are not placing keywords in white text on a white background.
Keywords are an extremely important part of SEO, however their use has changed considerably over the years.
No longer do […]
finding out more - google gone crazy?
If you ever want to find out more about a website I recommend looking at the robots.txt and the sitemap.xml
You can usually find these files in the root of the site
for example:
domain.com/robots.txt
and
domain.com/sitemap.xml
I find it fun doing this for the likes of google.com and yahoo as you can often (not so much anymore) get a […]

The revolution a step closer
Today I read a very interesting interview with Sebastien Marcel on Face Recognition.
Sebastien’s website, google portrait, allows you to search for faces only. In a similar way to Google image search, which allows you to search for images using the ‘imgtype=face’ parameter.
Both use facial recognition technology. The revolution could be one step closer.
